Go behind the scenes with Open Doors 2024
It’s time for Open Doors 2024 – where construction sites come alive in front of your very eyes.
Open Doors, delivered by Build UK in partnership with CITB, takes visitors behind the scenes to showcase the fantastic range of careers available in construction. And there is something for everyone with more than 210 events taking place across Great Britain from Monday 18 to Saturday 23 March 2024.
Young people and those looking to change career are offered an interactive insight into what working in construction is really like. Construction sites across the country open their doors, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience construction careers first-hand.
Sites include HS2 stations, skyscrapers, hospitals, schools, leisure centres, prisons and more, whilst factories, offices and training centres will also be opening their doors to demonstrate the off-site roles on offer across the sector.
An Open Doors visit also helps to dispel some of myths that surround the industry. Visitors may discover that the average salary within construction of almost £45,000 is much higher than they think.
With construction traditionally seen as outdoor physical work, Open Doors visitors will also see the huge range of office-based roles along with a significant increase in the use of technology and demand for digital skills.
With more than 180 careers available, the industry has something to offer everyone, whatever their age, background or skills. There is so much more to construction than just building – from design and engineering through to project planning and sustainability initiatives – and more companies are embracing flexible working to help make it a positive career choice for everyone.
At CITB, we are proud to take part in the Open Doors programme. We are opening our doors at our National Construction College (NCC) sites at Bircham Newton and Inchinnan.
Visitors will have the opportunity to have a guided tour around the learning facilities, where they’ll be provided with information on the various training courses available. Our industry experts will deliver live demonstrations on how various construction tasks are completed. They’ll also have the chance to ‘have a go’ at completing some construction related challenges which will be set by our experts.
